Our guide to a holiday on the Isles of Scilly.

The Mount Haven in Marazion is perfectly situated as your base from a trip to Scilly.

Isles of Scilly

The unique and beautiful Isles of Scilly

If you would like to spend your holiday in Scilly, the perfect place to travel from our far western tip of Cornwall.  The Isles of Scilly Travel company offer two alternative means to travel – The Scillonian III boat sails from Penzance six days a week or the Skybus, fixed-wing aircraft, from Land’s End. A shuttle bus operates from Penzance Station to and from the airport.  Both the Scillonian Ferry and the airport are being seriously upgraded this winter 2012. Contact www.ios-travel.co.uk

Arriving by land you descend into a glistening archipelago of these beautiful island, by boat you approach St Mary’s Harbour through Crow Sound. From St Mary’s little boats can take you onto any of the other islands you would like to visit.

Whatever you decide, of course the perfect place to stay before your trip would be the Mount Haven Hotel. You could enjoy a one night stopover or perhaps stay a few days with us to explore magical West Cornwall and a few days on the islands. Book one of our superior balcony doubles for dinner, bed and breakfast and start your holiday by kicking back and relaxing; gazing at St Michael’s Mount from your balcony or the terrace and enjoy a beautiful meal in our 2 AA rosette restaurant. If you would like to leave your car with us while you visit the islands we just ask for a donation of £3 a day for our project for the street children of India. See www.childrensproject.org   we also have a fantastic team of therapists and there is no better way to unwind quickly than a deep tissue massage in our healing room.  The profits of which also go to our charity above.

Of course day trips are available to the islands and Isles of Scilly travel offer a flight out and a leisurely cruise back on the Scillonian for only £80. It’s cheaper by boat both ways but this gives you the best of both worlds, seeing the islands from the sky and having more time to explore.

The Isles of Scilly are of course linked in myth to the lost land of Lyonesse of Arthurian legend. Perhaps this dates from the time St Michael’s Mount became tidal in 2000BC or perhaps more land was lost after the tsunami caused by the Great Lisbon Earthquake which was devastating.

The Isles of Scilly: Cornwall or Caribbean.

To think, perhaps to dream, of a quiet place, a place of great beauty, washed by azure seas, golden beaches, dramatic cliff;  to wander perhaps across lonely moors and breath-taking coastal vistas. A possibility to find peace and come back to an inner serenity. Of course that place is within us, but sometimes we have to leave our lives for a while and find a place to for this soul of ours to take refuge, to lose the grip of the frantic activity of a mind confused with worries, anxieties and a lack of ease. The demands of life today have the ability to overwhelm our mind and our senses and we get lost for a time. We all need the space to clear all this bombardment to be able to see clearly once again.

Of course, so far from everywhere, West Cornwall is just the place to come back to an inner peace. A tranquillity where thought can once again come from a place of clarity.

We are spoilt here for choice to just find a place to sit and gaze at the waves or wander through the glories of our natural beauty. Many people have also found that the Isles of Scilly also offer a place of peace of tranquillity and harks back to an earlier and more innocent time.

Bathed by the waters of the Atlantic, with beaches reminiscent more of Caribbean islands than anything else found in Northern Europe, the Isles of Scilly and West Cornwall attract world-weary souls from the world over.

The Mount Haven Hotel near Penzance is popular as a stop over to and from the Isles of Scilly convenient both for the Scillonion ferry and Land’s End Airport.
