Meet the Team - Sham Mulji, Assistant General Manager

If you are a regular at the Mount Haven, you'll be familiar with our wonderful team, and we thought you may want to get to know a little more about each of them. Meet Sham, our Assistant General Manager who joined us at the beginning of the year.

Please tell us a little about yourself?

I’ve recently moved to West Cornwall from my home city of Leicester. I have a passion for Speciality Coffee, café culture and love Affrogato with clotted cream ice cream. In my downtime, I like being outdoors, exploring wildlife habitats and playing tennis.

What made you decide to move down to Cornwall?

My partner is originally from North Cornwall so we’ve decided to move down to set up life in a more laid back county and a beautiful setting.

What is your role at the Mount Haven Hotel & Restaurant?

I have joined the team as Deputy General Manager, leading up the Front of House team and supporting in the overall management of the hotel.

As this is your first year with us, what are you most looking forward to?

Learning the ropes of hotel management and getting to know the wider St Aubyn Estates business. Seeing Marazion change across the seasons and finding hidden treasures in the surrounding areas.

What is it that you love about working in the hospitality industry?

Exceeding expectations – delivering the feel-good feeling from dining, drinking and being away from the everyday.

So far, what is your favourite thing about working at the Mount Haven?

The food and feel! Delicious and innovative food in a chilled atmosphere. And that view – will never get old from sunrise to sun down!

What inspires you most about your job?
Being surrounded by creative, like-minded people and joining at an exciting time of developing food, beverages and service culture.

Where is your favourite place in Cornwall?

Tricky question, being newly settled, I’ve got a lot of exploring to do, so open to recommendations! I really enjoy the wildlife in the mix of coastal and woodland habitats.

We see that you have been a chef in the past, what is your favourite dish to cook?

Tough question for any foodie, I would have go with an ingredient to cook – Eggs! Delicious when done well, so many applications, marries with so many flavours, cuisines and comfort in umami.

And your food guilty pleasure?

Fried Chicken – less of the Kentucky style and more street foodie with East Asian flavours.

Finally, how would you describe the Mount Haven in three words?

Outgoing, Creative, Stylish
