My West Cornwall - Ad Searle, Reservations Team
Find out our teams favourite spots in West Cornwall, from gardens to galleries, events to walks.
Favourite beach: Growing up in Prussia Cove this small but beautiful cluster of coves is very close to my heart. This is where I learnt to swim, jumping off rocks into the clear warm sea. Actually, I do remember there was a lot of seaweed too which just made you swim harder to escape. For a sandy beach, it is most definitely Praa Sands where I spent many wonderful times with my children.
Favourite activity: An outdoor girl who grew up on a farm I am happiest out in the Cornish air. I like to get out on my bike heading off to the coast. There are many rides to take, Penzance, Newlyn & Mousehole or cross-country rides to Hayle & St Ives. A favourite is along the river from St Erth to Relubbus, so pretty & quiet too.
Favourite walk: When the tide allows there is a lovely beach walk from Porthleven to Gunwalloe, you can have a pit stop at the lovely Halzephron Inn and return along the coast path. If you are lucky enough you can catch a stunning sunset over the bay. So lucky to live here.
Favourite gallery: The Summerhouse Gallery in Marazion, a beautiful place showcasing local, talented artists paintings & jewellery.
Favourite event: Penlee Park Open-Air Theatre, fabulous location and a wide range of theatrical performances in the summer. The line up for 2020 is looking good, cannot wait to spend another enjoyable afternoon or evening here again soon.
Favourite sunset & storm watching spot: Zennor is a super spot to watch the sun setting, sitting out on the edge of the coast is just breathtaking. Cutest & only pub in tiny Zennor the Tinners Arms is perfect for a drink too.
Favourite place for a pint / cocktail / glass of wine: Pandora Inn at Mylor bridge – sitting on the pontoon looking across the creek with a glass of wine, good times!
Favourite pub: Just along the coast from Zennor is Gurnards Head. Easy to spot is The Gurnard's Head pub – painted the colour of my favourite fruit ‘passionfruit’. Lovely old pub to just relax with a drink or enjoy delicious food, one of my favourite places to eat.
Favourite restaurant: Porthgwidden Beach Café in St Ives – love this place for lunch or supper. Enjoyed many meals here overlooking the sandy beach & St Ives bay.
