Winter in West Cornwall

From the famous sparkling lights of Mousehole to film festivals and Christmas fairs - Cornwall shines brightly throughout the winter months, with plenty to see and do. 

2nd Novemeber: Bristol Art Library, St Ives - Enjoy and interact with this performance. A fully functioning public library housed in a wooden cabinet the size of a small suitcase. Artist Annabel Other created the library and is the Head Librarian. The library’s volumes cover a wide range of subjects, from palaeontology to astronomy, with 250 books made by artists and practitioners from all areas of the arts and sciences. In St Ives, new publications will join the library including an edition by Cornwall based artist Abigail Reynolds.

10th - 19th November: Cornwall Film festival, Falmouth - Now in its 17th year, the Festival caters for connoisseurs and casual viewers alike, with a programme curated to reflect the theme of ‘RESISTANCE’ that includes features and shorts; dramas, documentaries and off-the-wall comedies; international and UK cinema; award winners from Cannes and showcases of new work from the big-name filmmakers of tomorrow. 

23rd & 24th November: St Ives Shanty Shout Weekend, St Ives - Now in its third year, the event, hosted by St Ives group, Bamaluz Bootleggers, with sponsorship from local businesses, the 2018 shout will feature more than 20 groups (including the legendary Kimbers Men travelling down from Yorkshire) singing at multiple venues in the town.

28th November - 2nd December: Made in Cornwall Christmas Fair, Truro - Hand crafted wall hangings, jigsaw puzzles, candles, pottery, calendars, clothing, treasure trails for the children, hand made chocolates, preserves and local ales are just some of the goods which will be available at this year’s Made in Cornwall Christmas Fair.

29th November: Cornish Christmas Market, Marazion - Looking for the perfect present? Why not visit the Godolphin Arms on Thursday 29th November between 2PM-8PM for their Cornish Christmas market. There will be an array of gifts by local makers, artists and creators - we hope to see you there! 

1st December: Winter Festival, St Ives - Enjoy free entry to Tate St Ives along with special talks, family-friendly activities and more. At the heart of the festival are many local choirs and performers including St Ives Combined Chapels Choir, Cornwall Youth Chamber Choir and Cornwall Music Service Trust Combined Primary School Choir amongst others.

1st December - 2nd December: Flambards Christmas Fayre, Helston - The Fayre will be brimming with local gifts and goodies – a host of fantastic stalls with affordable high-quality products, food and drink. Stalls can be found in various venues within the park, including the Entertainment Venue, the Cafe area, the Victorian Village and Britain in the Blitz where you can wander around the stunning exhibitions.

7th December - 5th January: Aladdin by Miracle Theatre, Falmouth - Following its past sell out productions, Miracle is delighted to be back at Princess Pavilion, Falmouth with a new & not to be missed Christmas show suitable for all, Aladdin.

12th & 19th December: Cornish Christmas Wreath Making, Marazion - Join the team at the Godolphin Arms this festive season and create your own Christmas Wreath, with the creative team from Heart of the Woods. Make your very own Cornish Christmas wreath using sustainably sourced and foraged foliage, guided by Jo - woodland expert and floral arranger.

16th December - 4th January: Mousehole Christmas Lights, Mousehole - See the harbour village of Mousehole come alight with the twinkling lights of Christmas. With floating displays of lights in the harbour and around the streets that are filled with the aroma of mulled wine and festive food. You’ll see a fantastic display of sea serpents, fishing boats and whales colourfully lighting up one of Cornwall’s most welcoming harbours.
