Activities in Marazion, Penzance and west Cornwall
West Cornwall is teeming with things to do, with the coastline playing a major role in the activities available – from windsurfing in the bay and foraging the shoreline of the peninsula, to cycling the hedgerow-lined country lanes and painting the dramatic landscapes where the sea kisses the cliffs.
The South West Coast Path
Dubbed the ‘Wild West Coast’, the coastal path from Mount’s Bay to St Ives is a challenging yet rewarding trek that encompasses iconic landmarks, secret beaches, hidden fishing villages and historical sites. With the path running the entire coastline of Cornwall, day hikes and loop walks are available all over west Cornwall.
From May to September, take a dip in Penzance’s outdoor Art Deco lido. Located on the promenade, jutting into the bay, the pool is filled with saltwater and sheltered by the high walls surrounding it. Although it is most popular for bathing, the success of its 2016 reopening has seen an introduction of activities, including yoga and paddleboarding. Keep an eye out for the new Jubilee Pool Café, which will be launched this season and operating as a social enterprise.
The Minack Theatre
Rowena Cade's world-famous outdoor theatre, which was hand-built into the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic, has been showcasing drama, musicals and opera for over 80 years. Alongside its wonderful performances, that run from May until September, the Minack has become well known for its subtropical garden and expansive views over Porthcurno Beach and Logan Rock.
